| Abstract: | The Science learning objects support and enhance students’ understanding of key scientific concepts in a range of contexts for the P–10 years. The learning objects are based on current research findings in science education and pedagogy. They foster scientific inquiry, data interpretation, analysis and synthesis skills thatare transferable to daily life and to offline learning opportunities. The learning objects promote scientific literacy and are organised around scientific concepts with real-life application for students. They contain open-ended investigative tasks, tools, activities, and processes that enable students to engage in ‘real’ science experiences and to construct and test their own scientific understandings. Many of the learning objects also provide meaningful models, simulations and demonstrations of scientific concepts and practices. These provide teachers and students with experiences that are not universally available because, for example, they require expensive equipment or occur over extended periods of time. Learning objects released to date cover the following curriculum strands: Earth and beyond Life and living, Natural and processed materials, Energy and change, Working scientifically. |
