CW1 Resourcing for Planning

Title: CW1 Resourcing for Planning

Authors: Lutheran Education Australia

Abstract: The files in this collection are designed to assist with the resourcing, planning and teaching of a unit of work based on the first key idea of the Christianity in the World strand: CW1 'Religious beliefs and ideas shape people’s thinking and actions'.

Description: This is a starting point for exploring and selecting some of the resources that can be used to plan for and teach CW1 'Religious beliefs and ideas shape people’s thinking and actions'. While comprehensive, it certainly is not finite, and teachers are encouraged to submit more resources they find in order to build a huge useable resource. The basic categories are film/video/DVD, literature, resources/artefacts, art, music, associations/organisations, non-fiction, student resources, articles, lesson outlines.

Church Buildings

Title: Church Buildings

Authors: Redeemer Lutheran School

Abstract: This is a set of three powerpoints comprising 116 slides of church buildings.

Description: The slides in this set of powerpoints were all taken in the Barossa Valley and Lower mid-north of South Australia. They show church buildings of various denominations in both rural and rural township areas. Architectural styles reflect Germanic, British and Italian and modern influences. Some interiors are shown. Depending on the focus, they are a useful resource for CC2, CC3, CW1, CW2 key ideas. Apart from the wealth of material that can be explored via the buildings themselves, the signage boards, too, lend themselves to inquiry into church names and congregation practices.

CL3.3 Stewards of Creation

Title: CL3.3 Stewards of Creation

Authors: Mills, Cade

Abstract: The question: why has God called people to be stewards of his creation? drives this unit of work for Year 4.

Description: The inquiry begins at the beginning, with a study of Genesis 1 and 2, and noting the plans, intentions and directions God gives. The notion of ‘stewardship’ is explored with opportunities for the development of thinking skills and reflection. From here the inquiry moves into sustainable and unsustainable living with encouragement to turn learning to action.

CB2.1 What is God like?

Title: CB2.1 What is God like?

Authors: Macleod, Tash

Abstract: In their quest to find out about God, students explore Bible stories that focus on different aspects of God’s nature, describe ways God helped people, and suggest ways people today respond to God’s gifts.

Description: This inquiry unit for Year 1 students begins with students responses to what they think God is like. It challenges them to think about whether others’ responses might be the same or different. They survey to find out, then embark on a journey through the Old and New Testaments to find out more and more about God, his nature, and how people respond. Their discoveries they share, at the end, with a wider audience: peers, parents, older people.

Seven websites are included in the file to spark an investigation into the history and significance of these two days.
